BRIDGWATER & TAUNTON CANAL - MAUNSEL LOCK - the original wall mounted telephone from the lock keepers cottage, the printed paper inset dated December 1951 "WR Telephone Circuit No.149 Standards Lock Taunton MPD.."; a two aspect hand lamp with original GWR burner, brass oval to one side "Maunsel Lock B & T Canal" 33cms high and a cast iron warning notice "Bridgwater & Taunton Canal Warning Any Person Unlawfully Interfering With Or Damaging Any Of The Swing Bridges......" 56cms x 76cms and a colour photograph of the lock keepers cottage which shows the telephone box on the wall

Provenance: The Vendor's Uncle was the lock keeper

NB: The Bridgwater & Taunton Canal was opened in 1827, it connected the river Tone at Taunton to the river Parrot at Huntworth, ten years later it finally reached the centre of Bridgwater. Used to carry coal and iron from South Wales and agricultural goods from the surrounding area, it ceased as a commercial waterway in 1906. It is now fully restored and Maunsel lock keepers cottage is now an interpretation centre for the canal
